A Fairy Garden Birthday Party

When you’ve already done unicorns, princess, dinosaurs and mermaids, a mom’s gotta get creative. For Tinsley’s 6th birthday, I wanted something fresh but still fun, girly, and magical. A late-night Pinterest scroll landed me on the perfect idea: a fairy garden birthday party. I could already picture Tinsley loving it and bonus, it seemed easy enough to pull together without losing my mind.

We hosted the party at home, which in March weather in Idaho is always a gamble. Some years it’s warm enough to play outside, other years it’s spitting snow. Thankfully, the weather held and we ended up using our kitchen, living room, and back patio.

While Tinsley was over at Grandma’s, we transformed the house into a fairy wonderland. Balloons hung from the ceiling, clip-on butterflies perched on garlands, and the kitchen island turned into “fairy garden land” complete with wood slabs and flowers. When she walked in, wide-eyed and giggling, it was everything I’d hoped for.

And then came the real magic: the surprise she didn’t see coming. After cake and crafts, we gave her the one thing she’d been asking for over and over: an actual pet bunny. Let’s just say six-year-old dreams came true in one big, fuzzy moment.

The Decor & Setup

  • Balloons with a twist: Giant balloons hung from the ceiling and balloon garland with clip-on butterflies made them feel whimsical.
  • Flowers everywhere: Faux garlands draped across the fireplace and light fixtures.
  • The fairy land centerpiece: Our kitchen island styled with wood slabs, moss, and blooms.

The kids’ favorite part was making their own fairy gardens to take home. Each little guest got a planter, some dirt, spring flowers, and a mini “fairy house” (which was really a craft birdhouse they painted themselves). Add in gems, moss, and rocks, and suddenly you’ve got little girls seriously focused on gardening.

We also had flower crowns for each kiddo to wear and fairy garden temporary tattoos. There’s nothing like a backyard full of giggling fairies with matching tattoos.

We kept it simple on the food:

  • Cake: A custom fairy-themed cake and cupcakes from our favorite local cake lady, Rexburg Cakes… Beautiful and delicious.
  • Snacks: Charcuterie cups filled with deli meat, cheese, pretzels and fruit, easy to grab and go and food kids typically enjoy.

Our Must-Haves

  • Electric balloon pump = lifesaver. Don’t even try to blow them all up yourself.
  • Amazon + Pinterest = best combo. Nearly everything came from there.
  • Get help. Ask grandparents to babysit while you decorate or recruit friends for setup and cleanup. My mom asked how she could help so I asked her to bring the fresh flowers for the kids to plant. Win-win.
